ADSL connection, but very weak at the wireless leg of the chain.. Problem can manifest at any time, but normally fairly stable when just one laptop connected. Still OK when my i. Phone. 4 connects. Signal stregth monitor using Intel PROset Wireless shows strength varies constantly from non- existent, through poor and good to very occasionally Excellent.

Strength Ok when is same room as router, and usable when at about 3- 4m in next room. Upstairs however usually non- existent or so poor to be unusable. Every time another laptop is connected however the first gets dropped. Even when is same room. Manual re- connection (occasionally it will re- connect itself) is then required every 2- 5 minutes, until other devices are powered off. Not good when you are also using a shared wireless printer.
OK - here's the details (followed by response to the usual tweaks): 1. What exchange are you connected to? RIPON - MYRPN 2. How many telephone extension sockets do you have? MASTER + 2 others.
Do you have an NTE5 master socket? YES3b. If yes to question 3a, have you tried the test socket? YES3c. If yes to question 3b, how long for and did you notice an improvement in your connection? As master socket is on front wall of house, further away from main areas where computers are used for wireless connection then this made the situation worse.
Do you have an i. Plate or ADSL faceplate? Not knowingly.
Is your modem/router connected to your Master Socket? Not now – connected to an extension socket closer to centre of house (ground floor). Are you experiencing any problems with your phone service? None.
What modem are you using? Make & Model)? Huawei Echo. Life HG5. 21 7. Have you tested with an alternative modem? Yes – Belkin F5. D 7. 63. 2- 4 v 2. Have you tested with a different microfilter? Yes – most expensive from PC World.
Made no difference to wireless problem. N. B. ALL phone handsets, etc.
ARE connected via a microfilter. Even those on different extension to the router. Are you using a telephone extension lead? Not between wall socket and microfilter or to router. Just house internal wiring to secondary wall socket.
What is your modem SNR Margin down and up? Up 9. B, Down 1. 0. 1 d. B1. 1. What is your bandwidth (Connection or sync speed) down and up?
Up 8. 65, Down 5. What is your attenuation down and up? Up 2. Down 3. 9 d. B1. 3.
Are you experiencing the disconnections at any specific time? Any time, but especially when another computer / device connects to WLAN1.
Are you currently using Wireless? Yes. Do you have an Alarms and/or Sky boxes connected to the telephone line? No but do have a Panasonic wireless phone. Have also tried: A) made sure the router's connection trigger is set to "Always On".
B) checked one Windows XP laptop uses Intel PROset Wireless to manage connection, others use Windows 7 own management. Could this be a problem?)C) Tried swapping channels all the way up to 1. No detectable difference.
D) Swapped router default to 8. No detectable difference. E) Dis- abled WPS. No detectable difference. All as per suggestions found under "Tips for wireless connection" elsewhere in this forum, and from Barney's helpful replies to other enquirers.
F) If one laptop connects to router via yellow (Ethernet?) cable, then others connected wirelessly at same time also then suffer loss of router visibility every 6. Just the same as when multiple connections wirelessly. G) At times when wireless signal / loss at its worst frequency then router also often requires a re- enter of SSID and password ID. H) Have checked my laptop (the XP one using Intel PROset/Wirelss), IS using the very latest available drivers from Windows update. WLAN Settings as on 0. Mode 8. 02. 1. 1g.
Country UKChannel 6rate Auto. Transmit power 2. Bm. SSID index SSID1. SSID TALKTALK- ______ (where _____ is correct for router)Max devices 3.
WMM enabled. Security WPA- PSK/WPA2- PSKWPA encryption TKIP+AES WPS enabled (changed to un- ticked / disabled 0. WPS mode PBC (changed to greyed out when above disabled )WLAN Filtering OFF / disabled. In summary, symptoms are very similar to those posted 2. October 2. 01. 1 by user "kh. HG 5. 21 Router wireless signal drop".
I've run out of ideas and things to try. Suggestions welcome...(P. S. I rely on connection for my work - home teleworker).
